The Chosen One is the cult started by Chosen One's Archpriestess Veronica, whose goal is to find the "Chosen One" that will save the world, by arranging trials to assess candidate's capabilities.
History[]
"A lone woman" which is speculated to be Veronica believed that the world's end was approaching. She didn't have any evidence backing up her claims and at the same time nobody could change her mind. That's why she was condemned by everyone. But in the end her strong faith was paid off because "she was chosen". That was the exact moment when she first heard about the "prophecy", which later becomes the core teaching of the cult. She ran away from her home barefoot that day and completely abandoned her past.[1]
Immediately after the first attack from the Invaders, The Chosen One was founded[2], with Veronica being its formal leader. She quickly expanded the newfounded cult by doing missionary activities. As the archpriestess, she was the one who wrote the Book of Prophecies, that was based on the prophecy she heard. Around the same time she started going on expeditions together with cult disciples to find the traces of the Chosen One. First two expeditions failed but the third one succeeded. Despite this, it was the riskiest expedition since The Chosen One's founding that could've ended the organization's existence. Massive explosion occured at the site, leaving only Veronica and her female disciple as the only survivors. After that certain expedition, the mysterious child on a wheelchair named Clara joined the ranks of cultists. That child had ridiculous amounts of power within her, instilling fear among rulers of neighboring countries. This helped The Chosen One increase its' political influence and gain more followers that admired the great power.[3]
Expedition's storyline reveals that the Cult orchestrated explosions in Dungeon Kingdom, sudden appearance of monsters in Shen City, and Frost Queen's awakening from deep slumber on Mount Shivering. By doing that Cult managed to:
- Make the prophecies that are written in Book of Prophecies come true, thereby strengthening the faith of followers;
- Create trials for Chosen One candidates in hopes of finding one;
- Spread their faith among desperate citizens of these regions;
Enemies in 4th Area are the monstrous cultists that received the blessing of Clara's Holy Power. After finding Clara, Veronica started torturing her, by stabbing her with Paimon's fragment over and over again to trigger her regeneration magic that worked on the basis of Holy Power. That way Veronica could extract Holy Power from her body forever[4]. Then she used it on cultists and even on exalted priests[5] to turn them into gruesome monsters. All of this was done to create the trial zones specifically for the ones who attained the 'Final Chosen One Candidate' title on The Chosen One's ranking system. While some cultists became hideous creatures in order to be a part of the trial for the Chosen One, others willingly decided to let the blue crystal absorb their souls with the purpose of endowing the Chosen One with great power. But after The Knight refuses to accept this crystal from Veronica, she proclaims the Knight "a false Chosen One" and sends the Clara to defeat them, before running away from the scene. After intense fight, the Saintess's flow of Holy Power becomes unstable and she explodes, partially destroying the Cult's headquarters. Clara then falls unconscious, and Captain Eva takes her with her. Later Knight finds Veronica on the hidden level of District 10 called "The Chosen One Sanctum". After another boss fight, Veronica manages to escape once again. Currently her whereabouts are unknown.
Book of Prophecies[]
The Book of Prophecies (also known as the book of scripture, Revelation, Prophecy) — the book that was written by archpriestess Veronica. It is hinted that something that goes by the name of "great will" whispered to her the prophecy, and then Veronica just wrote down everything she heard. The book is described as the essence of The Chosen One. It is given to new members, who then carry it with them for the rest of their lives[6]. The Book of Prophecies consists of 6 parts, with each part being divided into chapters. According to priestess Dolores, The Book of Prophecies mentions everything starting from Invader's invasion finishing with the advent of the Chosen One who will liberate them. Because the Cult carries out the prophecies mentioned in this book themselves, there is a template of what each chapter should describe in each part:
- First chapter describes the disaster that occurs in the area;
- Second chapter describes the appearance of boss monster that the Chosen One should defeat;
- Third chapter warns non-believers and describes the consequences of their ignorance.
Part 1[]
Part 1 describes the Invader's attack on Kanterbury Kingdom. Only one passage is known.
Chapter 1[]
On the dawn of destruction, a colossal face wearing an iron mask shrouded the sky, as violet light shined on the white castle...
Part 2[]
Nothing is known about this part of the book.
Part 3[]
Third part is about Dungeon Kingdom.
Chapter 1[]
As the breath of chaos seeps under the land, fire and sulfur rises. From the cracks, Abyssal demons will emerge.
Chapter 2[]
The demon has two black horns on its' head. Both of its' fists are like rocks dripping with hot lava, and legs like a bull's.
Chapter 3[]
A third died from the rising flames. Another third were eaten by the Abyssal demons, and salvation came for the final third who acted on faith.
Part 4[]
Fourth part is about Shen City.
Chapter 1[]
As the aura of doom arises, those who praised the false light will be cursed and transformed into hideous monsters.
Chapter 2[]
Regarding the appearance of the monster, its' body is like a human while its' legs are like a spider. It lays giant eggs and harms humans to offer them as sustenance.
Chapter 3[]
The day Calamity Egg hatches will be when doom befalls. Only those with true faith shall be saved by the Savior's grace, while ignorant non-believers are buried in this land.
Part 5[]
Fifth part is about Mount Shivering. Although things went smoothly in previous two areas, with Cult successfuly making prophecies come true, here events went down differently. Instead of the mentioned Frost Queen, the real threat was the Elder Dragon, and she was just restrainig him by being the core of the binding. By defeating the Frost Queen, Knight broke the seal, thereby releasing the dragon. The Chosen One, having witnessed the Frost Queen's sudden appearance near the mountain's central altar while the dragon remained concealed in the mountains for an extended period, jumped to the conclusion that the queen was responsible for the permafrost in the region. That meant that even Veronica didn't know the actual situation on the mountain.
Chapter 1[]
Amidst the blizzard of doom, the Frost Queen appeared leading death, after waking from her slumber in the snow mountain.
Chapter 2[]
Regarding the Frost Queen, each footstep she took made the land freeze. Monsters followed her in the dense blizzard, and there was no life around her, only cold death.
Chapter 3[]
When the world is about to come to an end by blizzard and frost, a Savior will appear before those who have not lost faith in the face of death, and warm light be restored.
Final Part[]
- Through fiery hell, monster-infested forests, and frozen mountains, the Savior reaches the Land of Testament, where the final trial awaits.
- Those who receive the holy blessing will meet the guide, and the savior will obtain new grace through the sacrifice of the longing. Those who gladly became martyrs for their mission will obtain true salvation.
- The prophet said, everything is pointless, worthless, futile, fruitless, and in vain. Behold. What has passed will return and what has occurred will repeat. The eye will not be sated from seeing nor the ear be filled from hearing. What has occurred will not be remembered, so what arises will not be passed on. For the loop has now been broken, so fill a new vessel with power and grace and endow it to this land.
Chosen One[]
The Chosen One is a person who can endure all the hardships and enemies of Tetis alone. Someone who will not submit to any hardship and will fight against all evil and injustice. Someone who will free them from their pain. But the Cult couldn't find The Chosen One up till now because they know neither how one looks nor whether one actually exists. It is revealed in 4th Area of Expedition, that the Chosen One must accept blue crystal from archpriestess in order to obtain the power that is supposedly capable of saving the world from it's end.
Known Candidates[]
The Cult has traveled around the world searching for an appropriate candidate. Some of the individuals who passed all the trials in 3 Areas are:
- The Knight;
- Flame Harpy Scintilla;
- The Lone Chosen One Candidate from hidden level "Mortuary" that's found in District 9. Defeated by Knight.
Despite this, the Cult has a mental image about their Chosen One, a silhouette of a person wearing Kaden's armor and sword.
Appearances[]
- The first ever appearance of The Chosen One in the main Story was in World 4. There, an amnesiac Captain Eva joined the cult.
- In World 9, cultists can be seen doing their ordinary missionary activities.
- An advert to attract candidates for the Cult has been featured in the Heavenhold Special Comics, specifically, "[Episode 5] The Chosen One". At the end of the advert, Veronica is shown to be searching for a person wearing a grey armor, presumably The Knight.
